The Capitals alumni game is returning to Kettler Capitals Iceplex Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. This is your chance to watch several Capitals legends lace up their skates one more time and get a jumpstart on this weekend’s Capitals Convention festivities.

The game will feature “Team Langway” facing off against “Team Laughlin.” We’ll see who makes a better general manager, the two-time Norris Trophy winner or the one-time 30-goal scorer turned Joe B. sidekick. You can watch Rod Langway and Craig Laughlin draft their teams here.

Alumni scheduled to participate include our outstanding coach and Hall of Fame member Adam Oates as well as All-Stars Peter Bondra, Dennis Maruk and Olie Kolzig and the man who has played more games in a Capitals uniform than anyone else, current assistant coach Calle Johansson. As a side note, I hear that the Vezina Trophy winner is trading in the goaltending equipment in favor of becoming a goal-scorer. So who do you think will score more goals, Olie or Brendan Witt? : ) (I’m glad to see Brendan return; he was a fan favorite and played a tough brand of hockey that we all appreciated and respected.)

It really is fun to see so many of these players come back and witness the camaraderie they still enjoy as they help us to celebrate our history. I am thankful to all of them for their help in making this a special game and Caps Convention. Here’s a list of alumni who will be returning.

In addition, the Caps have selected four experienced goaltenders to play in this year’s alumni game. Read their stories and make sure to vote for the starters.

Tickets for the game are just $10 and proceeds will benefit the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. If you don’t have your tickets yet, you can still get them here

Also, I am pleased to announce that ESPN980 will broadcast The Drive with Cooley and Czabe live from Kettler Capitals Iceplex prior to the game.

I hope you can join us for this wonderful event celebrating the history of Capitals hockey. Go Caps!
